My name is Maurice, and through my internship at Development Wheel (DEW) in Bangladesh, I am experiencing development work not only through reports and concept papers, but also directly through engagement with producer communities, women artisans, and partner organizations. My work connects project development, website content updates, field visits, and Fair Trade issues with a practical perspective on social impact and international cooperation.
Who I Am
I am Maurice Moneke. My internship at Development Wheel (DEW) gives me the opportunity to explore development work from a very practical perspective while actively contributing to communication, project, and research-related tasks.
What I Do at DEW
One part of my work involves reviewing and analyzing key DEW documents, including fact sheets, annual reports, project reports, and internal as well as external evaluations. Based on this, I contribute to the development of new project ideas and concept notes, especially those aimed at supporting marginalized producer communities.
Another important part of my internship is updating the DEW website. I help upload new activities and information, as well as product images from DEW Crafts, so that the work of the organization and its producer groups becomes more visible online.
What I Experience in the Field
One of the most valuable aspects of my internship is visiting DEW’s project and field areas. These visits allow me to speak directly with communities and women artisans, learn more about their daily realities, and better understand the stories, challenges, and hopes behind the products they create.
These experiences make my internship especially meaningful. They show me that development work is not only about planning and reporting, but also about relationships, trust, local knowledge, and practical support in everyday life.
Why This Motivates Me
What motivates me most about this internship is the connection between direct field exposure, strategic project work, and an international perspective. Through exchanges with local communities, work on digital content, and networking with Fair Trade actors , I can see how local initiatives and global partnerships can support one another.
For me, this internship is therefore more than an academic placement. It is a practical learning experience that helps me understand development cooperation.
